BROTHER'S KEEPER by Glen R. Krisch
BROTHER'S KEEPER is a good post-apocalyptic novella. It's about two dysfunctional brothers (Jason and Marcus Grant) who are reunited after several years. They have drifted apart, taking two completely separate paths to adulthood. Jason works at the local paper, while Marcus goes down a path of self-destruction.
Marcus ends up joining a secret society that wants to cause a worldwide calamity that will destroy modern mana's domination of the planet. Marcus wants Jason to join him.
There's a lot to like about this novella. The dysfunctional Grant family is interesting. The characters have just enough background to bring everything to the forefront. At its core, BROTHER'S KEEPER is a tale of good vs evil or Kane and Abel.
The characters are solid. The dialogue is good. The premise is solid. The execution is great. This is a quick read, and the author does a great job of keeping the tension tight. The ending is really good, too!
I will be reading Glen's other work in the near future. You should also give him a read.
