Brian Keene never disappoints! I have read several books by him. His work
speaks for itself.
Scratch is small town horror with an enormous villain. The story is set in a rural Pennsylvania town that is seeing torrential rain for the first time in years. The Susquehanna River crests and the waters begin to rise. Legend has it that a giant snake called "Old Scratch" dwells in the river. The giant snake is hungry, so he goes hunting in the rising water.
Brian Keene creates an excellent setting and a great cast of characters. The main character seems like the average American dad. He's just trying to provide for his wife and kid. He must protect his family from "Old Scratch."
I don't like snakes, so I was on edge the entire story. The scenes are vivid and the storyline is smooth. The ending was great as well. I can still picture "Old Scratch" slithering about.
Halves is a creepy bonus story about a cat. If you love cats, then you will love this short story! Halves is a really short read, but it packs a punch.
I highly recommend this book!
