Crawlers! by Ray Garton

Crawlers! is everything I wanted and then some. I want the signed limited edition copy, but it will run you roughly $150 on eBay. So, can you imagine my excitement when it came out in ebook format? I read this book in one sitting. Crawlers! is Ray Garton's nod to The Day of the Triffids.

Crawlers! is set in the picturesque town of Mount Crag. The residents are in for a
surprise. There is a bizarre meteor shower, and the townsfolk awaken to find strange flowers blooming everywhere. The flowers are beautiful, but they begin popping off their stems. They start hunting their prey. If someone gets in their way, they take control of them.

Ray Garton gives you a glimpse of smalltown life and the issues that the residents face. Throw some devilish flowers into the mix and you have one helluva story. Ray Garton manages to give the characters just enough backstory to move the story along. The characters seem authentic and flawed. The scenes feel real and the story moves along at a steady pace. The dialogue is great too. There is a character in this story that steals the show.

I don't know how the original ending went, but the revised ending is thoroughly satisfying. The cover is dope too.

Highly recommend!
