Loner by Teddy Wayne

I have never read a book like this before. I couldn’t put it down, but at the same time I felt creeped out. The author’s style is amazing. The dialogue was witty and fast paced, especially the inner dialogue. I have never felt sorry for a character and want to cheer him on, then by the end of the book completely feel disgusted by the guy. I felt sorry for all three of the main characters in this story. This book is about David, Susan, and Veronica who are freshmen at Harvard. David starts dating Susan, but he has a thing for her roommate, Veronica. David and Susan eventually break up, but David had already moved on to Veronica. David didn’t realize he was part of a term paper experiment, though. Veronica got close to David so she could write a paper. David got close to Veronica because he became obsessed with her and he stalked her. The ending is what got me! David ended up getting arrested because he raped Veronica and Susan pulled him off of her. It turns out that David got off without any charges or jail time. The only character that had a good ending was Susan, but at the end of the book, David becomes obsessed with her.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes thrillers and suspense!
5/5 stars!
