After the Fog Clears by Lee Thompson

I received After the Fog Clears as an ARC or Advanced Reader’s Copy from NetGalley. After the Fog Clears is a non-stop thrill ride that sucks you in from the beginning. This book wastes no time getting to the meat of the story. Twists and turns are around every corner, some you see and some you don’t. Needless to say, you are not going to want to put this book down. Lee Thompson is a fresh voice in an often crowded genre. This book stood out to me because Lee Thompson introduced the characters slowly, allowing the plot to do its work. The plot is smooth and refreshing because the author takes one tragedy or event at the beginning, allowing it to have a chain reaction throughout the rest of the book, which makes for an interesting read.
Most authors dump all of the characters’ backgrounds on the reader in one chapter, but Lee Thompson doesn’t do that. Lee Thompson slowly unveils the backgrounds of his main characters, allowing the reader to absorb the richness and depth of the small world he created. Lee Thompson leaves no rock unturned in this suspenseful noir. It is a tour de force of revelation after revelation until the very last page.
No one is safe in Saginaw, Michigan. What’s so scary about this book is that Saginaw is like so many small towns throughout America and the events that take place there can take place in any small town. Some themes throughout the book are murder, adultery, and forgiveness. How far are people willing to go to keep secrets from their loved ones? How far is a person willing to go to cover their tracks? Can all be forgiven?
